Eddie
Eddie is a horse that was meant to be at Gateway. Although his owner dearly loved him, they could no longer care for his special needs. A friend recommended she contact us, knowing that we take an interest in horses that need special understanding and care. Although we wouldn’t consider Eddie a rescue from abuse, he was definitely a rescue from painful circumstances.
Eddie is just turning 10 (Spring 2024). He is a Haflinger gelding. Haflingers are known to be very smart and mischievous at times. Although we have not seen the mischievous side of Eddie yet, I am sure it will be revealed sooner or later. We have double locked all gates and doors as a precaution!
Eddie seems to have had some very good training in the past. He is calm and steady and will make a great trail horse and also a great therapy horse. He is so beautiful the students are sure to fall in love with him at first sight.
Eddie has some metabolic issues that have caused damage to his hooves. It is our first goal to make sure he has a diet that will not cause further damage and to trim his hooves on a weekly basis until a new hoof can grow out. We anticipate 100% recovery in 9 or 10 months.
We are so happy to have Eddie in the Gateway Family and look forward to the joy he will bring.

We are so happy to have Eddie in the Gateway Family and look forward to the joy he will bring.20th, 2017 was an exciting day as we brought home our newest rescue, a little Arabian mare. This pathetic looking little horse was rescued by a friend of Gateway after hearing that the owner was shipping her to the meat auction. She was in very sad shape – bony, neglected hooves, ruined mane…. After three weeks in the good care of our friend, Kira came to join our Gateway family where she is continuing her rehab and now thriving. She has a very sweet nature and is very bright and willing to learn. We look forward to the joy she will bring our staff and students. It’s hard to understand how someone would discard a lovely horse like this.
